Please can someone tell me what ' chodzić o coś ' means? Np chodzić o futbol. Does it mean perhaps ' to care about or be passionate about something?

It's not so easy to explain. When you want to tell something like "I mean the football" or "I'm talking about football", you can use it. So, it's mean rather "think about sth or sb", "mean" or "be concerned with sth or sb".

I hope, I explained it clearly.

Hi Wixer,

"chodzić o" has various meanings e.g.

1. "chodzi o futbol" - "meaning football"
a. Oczywiście, kiedy mówię o piłce to chodzi mi o futbol.
b. Zawsze mam na myśli piłkę jeśli chodzi o mecz.

2. "chodzi o to, że..." - "the thing is that...", "my point is..."
a. Chodzi mi o to, że nie wiem kiedy on przyjedzie.

3. "o co chodzi?" - "what's going on?", "what's with it?"
a. Ale o co chodzi? (w filmie, zadaniu, książce, danej sytuacji etc.)

4. "jeżeli chodzi o..." - "when it comes to..."
When you're talking about sth - in a wide context and at some point you want to be more specific about a certain thing.
a. Podróżowałem po całym świecie, ale jeżeli chodzi o Chiny to nie mogę nic na ten temat powiedzieć.
I have travelled around the world but when it comes to China I can't say anything about this.

I hope it helped.

Baloo

Hi Lilly, Hi Baloo
My thanks to you both for your answers, especially baloo! That's a better answer than could be found in a book  I think I understand what it means now and it seems to be a very useful construction to have in one's vocabulary. Thanks again to both of you for taking the time to answer me.
Lilly, I don't know if you want me to, but I can offer you two small corrections to your answer, which will make it sound much better English?
1)When you want to say something, is better than when you want to tell something. Tell would be used if you had said ' When you want to tell somebody something.
2) Also, you should have said it means rather than it's mean, which is not correct in this context. You could have said it's meaning is, which is correct.
It's mean on the streets of New York , meaning it's tough on the streets of New York , is correct.
I hope this helps you as much as your answer helped me

Pozdrawiam serdecznie Wixer

Hi Wixer,

Thank you for your tips. Sometimes I'm really ashamed, when I write something publicly. I started to study english three years ago, but it was at school. I guess, you know how it looks. Now (since May intensely) I try to make my english better, but it's not easy. I make mistakes all the time. That's why I'm really appreciate any help. I make a bet, that I have at least few mistakes in this answer :-) But I do my best.

Take care,

Lilly

Firstly Lilly, you must never be ashamed of what you write. You are doing very well for someone who has only been learning English for 3 years. You have only made a couple of small mistakes in this answer. Overall it's very well written.
The first one concerns the present perfect tense, which I know you don't have in Polish. Instead of saying ' since May I try to make my English ( don't forget capital letter), which people would understand , but is not really good English, you should say ' since May I have been trying to make my English better or improve my English is a better verb to use here.
Secondly you only need to say I really appreciate any help not I'm really appreciate, which is incorrect.
Apart from that it's well written. Well done
