Hi everyone,

I don't understand those sentences:

ludzie niech swoje myślą
Z diabłem do piekła wyślą
Warto być zawsze tylko sobą

And Google give me this translation:

ludzie niech swoje myślą
Let people think what they want - [It's meaningfull but wich words give the idea of "let" and "what"]

Z diabłem do piekła wyślą
To hell with the devil send - [It doesn't make sens]

Warto być zawsze tylko sobą
It should always be together - [If it's good, what should be always together? (Hell and Devil?)]

Thank you

R

ludzie niech swoje myślą
Let people think what they want. "Let" losely corresponds to "niech" and "what" is implied.
Z diabłem do piekła wyślą
They will send you to hell with the devil (you will travel together with the devil all the way to hell)
Warto być zawsze tylko sobą
It pays to be yourself ( to maintain your own identity)

Thank You Muffin!

Just one more thing, in:

Warto być zawsze tylko sobą

If "Warto" mean "it pays", isn't it more accurate to say:

It always pays to be simply yourself.

Because it looks like you missed "zawsze" and "tylko" in your translation?

Hi Raphy,

You are right I have missed "zawsze" and "tylko". However, "tylko" should probably
be literally translated as "only" or perhaps even "exclusively". Your sentence sounds
well in English, while a more literal translation would sound strange to an English ear.

"It always pays to be only yourself" sounds awkward to me, while "Warto być
zawsze tylko sobą" would probably not surprise anybody in Poland. On the other
hand, either "It always pays to be yourself", or as you have put it "It always pays
to be simply yourself" sound, and carry the original message, better. This example
shows a need for a right balance between precision and clarity in the art of translation.

Hi Muffin!

Yes, you are right. Moreover, it depends also of your need: If you want to understand the way of thinking of the foreigner country or if you just want make something intelligible.

And for finish this topic, just one more last thing!

Can you tell me what she says in the first sentence of the video:

I just understand:
- Allo?
- Tac
- naprawdę?
- XXXXXXXXXXX.....

I can't ear, it's too bad, it's the only part I miss to translate.

Thank you so much

- O Boże! Już pędzę.

- Hello,
- Yes.
- Really?
- O my God! I'm on my way.
